Term 2 Week 2 Monday 26th April
Our Prayer This Week
From the Principal
Dear parents and members of our community,
We have made a great start to the term and there are very few interruptions to our program at the moment. As you see on the school calendar, this will change over the term with many special events planned in the coming weeks.
ANZAC Day
Mortlake was fortunate to have an ANZAC commemoration without restrictions yesterday and many people chose to join the community event. We had ten students and six staff in the march and the seniors did a great job of carrying the banner and laying our school wreath. Congratulations to the Mortlake RSL for running such a successful event.
School Photos
Our school photos have returned and will be sent home with students today. Please check your children's back packs when they get home this afternoon.
Coin Line
Each year, over the Easter season, we raise money for an organisation called Caritas. Caritas is the catholic missions organisation who support struggling communities all over the world. The Project Compassion boxes sent home last term are used to collect coins in your home over this time. These need to be returned now and on Thursday each class will line their coins up to see who has the longest line. The winning class is given a hot chip lunch on Friday.
Major Raffle and Trivia Night
The School Advisory Council has decided to run an online raffle as our major fundraiser for 2021. The raffle will be launched during this week and will be drawn at our Trivia Night on Friday 18th June. This year we will not be conducting a silent auction but will be asking local businesses to donate vouchers for prizes for the Trivia Night.
The raffle tickets will be $25 each and the total prize pool will be valued at $4,500. First Prize is a $3ooo voucher, compliments of Scott's Betta Home Living, Second Prize is a $1000 Debit Card to be spent at local businesses, compliments of Acciona and Third Prize is a $500 voucher, compliments of Bates IGA Supermarket. All school families will be asked to sell as many tickets as possible to family and friends. We will be relying on your support to make this fundraiser a success. WE PLAN TO DISTRIBUTE TICKET INFORMATION DURING THIS WEEK.
St Colman's Cross Country
We will hold our school Cross Country on Thursday the 6th of May at Tea Tree Lake from 11:45 to 1pm. Parents are most welcome and we would appreciate some help with marshalling on the course. The children will need to wear their house colours to indicate if they belong to Banksia (yellow), Eucalyptus (blue) or Waratah (red)
On return to school there will be a sausage sizzle for the children to celebrate their efforts.
School Review
Our school operates on a five-year cycle of reviewing our entire organisation and setting some long term goals for improvement and growth. This term we are completing this review to assess how we have performed over the past five years and where we believe we need to spend time and resources in the next five. To reduce the workload this brings, we are having two full days of work on the task. Friday 7th of May will be a closure day for all students and Monday 10th of May will be a normal day for the students but emergency teachers will be running the program while we continue our work.

Our Diocesan Community
We have periodically distributed paper copies of the "Our Diocesan Community" magazine to our school families. To continue our push for paperless communication, this resource is now available digitally via the link below.
