Dear parents and carers,
What a wonderful weekend it was! The Tiger supporters in the school are very happy and the joy of Book Week is upon us. Congratulations to the winners of our Grand Final Sweep who were wise enough to select Richmond.

Public Holidays
In recent times St Colman's school has chosen to take Sheepvention Monday as our public holiday rather than Melbourne Cup. With the cancellation of Sheepvention this year we will now return to Cup Day on Tuesday the 3rd of November as our designated public holiday. This brings us into line with all our regional schools as Warrnambool schools have moved from race day to Melbourne Cup as well.
Many schools in our area also use this opportunity to create an extended long weekend for families by taking the Monday the 2nd as a school closure day. We will do the same this year except we will swap the Monday and Tuesday to give staff a long weekend with no school Monday and an opportunity to work on our Numeracy curriculum all day on the Tuesday of Cup Day.
Book Week
This week is Book Week and we are looking forward to a great celebration of reading in our school. We will conduct fun activities throughout the week, culminating in dress-up day on Friday the 30th. We are hoping to have our parade outside at 9:15am so that parents can gather at the West Street fence to see the children. (Face masks and social distancing required). We are also hoping to live stream the parade on our Facebook site for those unable to attend.
Donated Books
With the restrictions on our world at the moment we have been unable to secure all the short listed book week books for 2020. These books are the ones we have at the moment and we are, once again, inviting families to donate a short listed book to the library. Families select a book and then contribute the cost of the book to the school. This is then recorded inside the book for future readers to see and recognise. Please contact the school if you wish to be involved.

Book Fair and Parade
Our Book Fair will look very different this year. The children will have an opportunity to explore the books in detail with their classes today and they will create their own "wish list". Parents are able to come in and look at the books if essential or they can log on at home with the link below and purchase the books. On Friday, after the dress-up parade, we will have a street stall set up out the front of the school for parents and children to purchase books from the book fair.

Get Well Soon
Our thoughts and prayers are with Frank Breed as he is currently taking leave to care for a seriously ill family member. We hope that things turn out for the best and that he is able to re-join us once again in the near future.
Help Needed
With Frank away the most immediate need to fill his role is to keep the school lawns mown. We are seeking parents to volunteer to help with the whipper snipping, the hand mower and the rider mower work. If you feel you are able to help, please contact the school.
Staff News
We are delighted to announce that Bridget Van Den Broek has indicated that she will be returning from part-time maternity leave to full-time employment at St Colman's next year. We welcome Bridget back and look forward to seeing her 5 days a week next year.
This, of course, means that Pauline Sanderson will not be returning next year to work with us. We will be very sad to say goodbye to Pauline as she has made a wonderful contribution to our school over the last two years as a Junior teacher and as our "Learning Diversity Leader".
Uniform Change
The St Colman's School Advisory Council have been reviewing our school uniform over the last 12 months. Our initial adjustment to the uniform will be the introduction of a new sport shirt to replace the yellow polo we currently have. The new shirt will be the same design and material that the year 6 students currently wear. (Jane and I tried for the shirt on the right but this was not passed). This new shirt will hopefully breathe better in sport and, being a darker colour, not stain as easily. This will be a gradual introduction as new tops are needed.
Grade 6 Excursion
Our Grade 6 students will be going on an excursion to the Noorat campus of Mercy Regional College on Tuesday the 10th of November to explore the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths) education activities they are conducting. The students will travel by car at lunch time and return to school before the final school bell. There will be no Mercy students onsite on the day to comply with our current restrictions.
