A Prayer for our mums
From the Principal
Dear Families,
As Mothers Day approaches, I would like to take the opportunity to recognise the incredible impact all our mothers have on your children’s lives. Your guidance, encouragement, and sacrifices have helped shape your children into the kind and responsible individuals they are today.
Thank you for all the countless hours you have spent listening to your child read, volunteering at school events, and cheering your children on at all their extra-curricular activities. Your commitment to your children’s education and wellbeing is a testament to your dedication as mothers.
We are grateful for the role you play in our school community and the positive influence you have on your child’s social, emotional and academic growth. We work in partnership with you in educating your children and nurturing them into being happy, well-rounded individuals who can succeed in all aspects of life.
I am looking forward to seeing all the special women in our student’s lives this Friday at the Mother’s Day breakfast and I hope you all have a wonderful day next Sunday.
Happy Mother's Day!
Read on to find out what is happening in our school community. It is always a good idea to familiarise yourself with the key dates section of the newsletter. Please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions, concerns or suggestions you may have.
Have a great week.
Kind regards,
Janet

Wonder Recycling Rewards for Schools
This year we are participating in this program that will raise reward points that can be cashed in for sporting equipment for our school. Ask all your friends, neighbours and family members to save their bread bags and bring them to school and put them in the big white box at the front door at school. All bread bags (including muffins and wraps) are accepted. These bags are then returned to Wonder to be responsibly recycled.
So let's get recycling!!
Unwanted School Uniforms
At the end of last year we were looking for a solution as to what we should do with our old school uniforms. Jane has signed up to a company called ‘Wornup’ who collect old school uniforms and put them to good use for schools in need. If you have any of the old, out dated uniforms at home please drop them off at school so they can be passed on to this company.
We are also keen to start up a Second Hand Uniform cupboard at school for families who are currently suffering financial hardship to access. If you have any uniforms or shoes that your children have outgrown and that you no longer need, please consider donating them so they can be given to families in need within the school community.
Project Compassion
An important element of nurturing and educating the whole child at St. Colman’s is providing students with opportunities to participate in social justice events. Recently our school participated in the Caritas’ Australia Project Compassion campaign. Caritas uses funds raised to help alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world.
Participation in this event aligns with our school’s commitment to Catholic Social Teaching, in particular it highlighted a Preferential Option for the Poor. In a society marred by deepening divisions between rich and poor, our tradition instructs us to put the needs of poor and vulnerable people first. Last Friday at St Colman’s, the children used the donations they had collected in their Project Compassion boxes to create a coin line. The class with the longest coin line was rewarded with a hot chip lunch. The Middle class are the very happy winners! They will receive their prize on Wednesday.
Our school community raised $346.35 which will forwarded to Caritas Australia.
2023 Footy Tipping Competition
Our Footy Tipping Competition is up and running and we have 35 registered entrants.
Methodical Flame and Stacey Atkins are currently sitting on top of the Leaderboard with a score of 51.
Entry fee is $20 adults and $10 school aged children and is due to be paid ASAP
If you haven't already done so, please pop into the office to pay for your entry.
School Advisory Council
We would like to introduce you to our SAC members for 2022-2023. Lily Convery-Oborne (Chair), Jo Wallis, Alison Greig, Michelle Lehmann, Jo Dolling, Zion Palmer, Sophie and Nick Allen, Rachel Baulch, Rosie O’Connor (School rep), Janet Cain (Principal) and Fr. Gary Jones (Parish Rep)
These people are the voice of the parish and parents in the school. If you have any questions or anything that you would like raised please contact one of these people.
The SAC meets twice a term and we thank these people for agreeing to be a part of this group that provides an essential link between the school and its families.
Our next meeting is this Thursday at 6:30 at Macs hotel.
We have been profiling the members of our SAC, and this week we will hear from Alison Greig.
I am Alison, mum to Isabella in grade 2, Patrick in Foundation and Henry, aged 3, and Elsie, aged 2. I work part time at Our Lady Help of Christians in Warrnambool as a classroom teacher. This is my second year on the School Advisory Council and I find being an active member of the school community so rewarding. It has been a great opportunity to be involved in school related discussions and decision making for our children. I believe having a united voice in a school community is a vital key to success and I look forward to continuing to be a voice for our families.
